Welcome to Jessep Contracting, founded and led by Phil Jessep. We aim to provide a high-quality service that solves property dilemmas in our community and across Auckland.
Phil has over ten years experience operating specialist heavy machinery including bobcats, diggers and various other earth moving machinery. He moved into tree services, becoming a qualified arborist and professional climber for another tree company where he developed his passion for tree work.
Jessep Contracting was launched early 2020 with the vision of combining both skillsets to enable a ‘one stop shop’ service. The team at Jessep Contracting have the unique ability to go from site clearing, tree pruning or removal, to excavation and preparation for house foundations. If it involves specialist machinery such as diggers, landscaping or arborist skills, we have you covered!
We specialise in tree work in particular, with all the gear and skills to get the most technically challenging trees down without any damage utilising the many tools and machines at our disposal. We also promote tree health with correct specialist pruning and care.
We offer more than just a solution for your property dilemma – we provide a quality, professional service you will be thrilled with at the end.

OUR TEAM
Phil Jessep
Phil is a fully Qualified Arborist, certified trainer/assessor, and also certified heavy machinery operator with over ten years’ experience in the industry. He loves working outdoors, and gets a great deal of satisfaction solving a client’s problem and leaving the place looking great after some hard graft!
He is passionate about serving the community, by volunteering as a Firefighter with the Beachlands Fire Brigade and is an Infantry Soldier in the NZ Army Reserve.
This service is reflected in the way Phil runs his company, with efficiency, integrity and a focus on the small details setting us apart from the rest.
When he’s not up a tree or operating heavy machinery, Phil will be enjoying the outdoors and spending time with his young family.
Richy Morrison
Richy is a Level 3 qualified arborist, who is working through the final stages of his apprenticeship and Level 4 qualifications. He has been working in the industry for a year and a half and has discovered a passion for trees and climbing.
Richy lives by his mantra “If a jobs worth doing, it’s worth doing well” and takes a lot of pleasure in seeing the fruits of his labour each day.
“I get to climb trees, be right in amongst nature, take pride in my craft and get to work with top quality fellas. That’s why we say we have the best job in the world!”
Richy has grown up in Beachlands and he too, serves as a firefighter in the Beachlands Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Tim Hunt
Tim has been with us for a year now, and is working hard towards achieving his Arborist qualifications. Tim gets a lot of satisfaction from taking an unhealthy or misshapen tree and doing some careful proper pruning cuts to leave the tree looking healthy and aesthetically pleasing. Tim always ensures to leave the job sites tidy so you won’t even know we’ve been there.
Tim finds the process of technical rigging, using an array of ropes and pulleys to bring down a tree in pieces – often in a tricky location – without hitting or damaging anything really rewarding. “For me its the process, little by little, step by step, we end up making a big difference.”
Tim is a bee keeper in his spare time having owned his own bee keeping business from the age of 17!
Ethan Tams
Ethan is our newest apprentice and a valued member of the team.
He’s big on adventure sports like surfing, snowboarding, white water rafting and hiking. The thrill factor of being an arborist is a big part of why he’s chosen it as his new career path.
Ethan brings a positive vibe to the workplace and being the tallest member of our crew, height isn’t an issue for him!
He is excited to learn the science and skills that are associated with becoming a qualified tree surgeon. He’s always up for a laugh and gets stuck into the Mahi, getting the job done!

We offer a free onsite consultation where we will discuss the objectives of your tree services or construction project and consider different ideas with you, to ensure we resolve the problem properly the first time.
Our team is a tight knit crew of 3 full time workers, all energetic and enthusiastic and hard working. We are all passionate about our work and commit to ongoing training and certification to ensure we provide the best possible service and quality possible.
